Best way to rent a car in Namibia

Sternbrand
Hey everyone, planning a trip soon and thinking of doing a proper road trip across the country instead of being stuck on a tour bus timetable. Never hired a vehicle there before so not sure what the deal is with roads, insurance and paperwork. Is it better to book ahead or just sort something when I land at the airport?

Smart move, you really need your own wheels out there because the best spots are miles from anywhere and public transport just won't cut it. Grab a proper 4x4 with decent ground clearance, the gravel roads can get rough and a little hatchback will rattle itself to bits. Check out what is available to rent a car in Namibia here https://getrentacar.com/en-US/namibia . Also double check the insurance covers gravel road driving, some policies exclude it and that is exactly where you will be spending most of your time.

Get a vehicle with two spare wheels not just one, punctures on gravel stretches are pretty common and the next town might be hours away. The extra wheel takes up a bit of boot space but it beats sitting in the baking sun waiting for a tow truck that might not show up until tomorrow.
